NMC Northeast Stand Down Day 2024.

NMC Northeast celebrate first two years of success!!

On Thursday 15th August we hosted our annual Stand Down day at the Invercarse Hotel in Dundee, to celebrate 2 years of the NMC NE contract!

Over 160 Amey staff, supply chain and Transport Scotland attendees came along to the day which was focused on Celebrating Success, Stay Safe and Continuous Improvement. Our morning session included a welcome from Business Director Roddy Clark and contract updates from Operating Company Representative Tom Wallace and Transport Scotland Area Manager Paul Anderson. John Lees also provided a health and safety update for our contract within the Northeast.

This year we were very privileged to have special guest external speakers Tina McGuff and Roy O’Kane.

Critically acclaimed author and mental health campaigner Tina McGuff powerfully told her story on her experience as a teenager and young adult with anorexia and how she overcame the struggles that she faced. Tina bravely shares her experiences to help support others who are currently dealing with mental illness. You can find a link to Tina’s work here: Tina McGuff | Mental health campaigner

Roy O’Kane, Chief Officer of Kanzen Karate, a charity committed to supporting wellbeing and advanced education through karate and physical activity, presented a very insightful presentation on the benefits of teamwork and promoting success, using his partnership with Red Bull Racing as a great example of the hard work and dedication required when reaching towards success. NHS Tayside and Cancer Research UK both had stalls that were available throughout the day for attendees to visit and gain more information on prioritising their health and wellbeing.

Yvonne Douglas presented an informative presentation on fairness and respect in the workplace, distinguishing how you can be an ally, supporting those who experience microaggressions and barriers to opportunity, by identifying where workplace banter is turning into disrespect and bullying.

Parissa Imani-Rad also hosted a stall for the duration of the day and provided a presentation on Amey Benefits, informing attendees on the fantastic Save with Amey Benefits and Aviva Digicare+ Workplace.

We also hosted a quiz in both the morning and afternoon sessions based on presentations throughout the day. Cupcakes were supplied by Nicoll’s bakery, local to Dundee, to celebrate our 2-year anniversary for all of our attendees to enjoy!

The day was completed with Tom Wallace proving a 2-year overview of our achievements within the northeast contract and Roddy Clark hosting a Q and A with our Core Team. Thereafter, there was an opportunity for further networking, with the Core Team available to discuss any issues with staff who may not have wanted to raise issues in an open forum.

Thank you to everyone for their participation and helping to make the event a success!
