NEW TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AT A90 GLENCARSE OVERBRIDGE AS INVESTIGATION WORK BEGINS SUNDAY 12TH NOVEMBER

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is carrying out specialist structural testing and investigation works at the damaged A90 Glencarse Overbridge between Sunday 12th November and Monday 20th November.

The A90 Glencarse Overbridge suffered significant structural damage after being struck by an overheight vehicle on 28th March 2023. A southbound lane closure has been in place since the accident due to the potential for significant sections of concrete falling onto lane one southbound on the live A90 carriageway.

The testing and investigation works will help determine the extent of the internal damage caused by the bridge strike, and inform what will be required by way of a permanent repair to restore the integrity of the bridge.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists the investigations will be undertaken using a contraflow system directing southbound traffic onto the northbound carriageway.

A single lane will be in operation in each direction on the northbound carriageway between Kinfauns and Glendoick.

The A90 southbound off slip to St Madoes will be closed during the work. Southbound traffic will be diverted to the next A90 turnoff at Kinfauns where they will be able to return northbound on the A90 and exit at the northbound off slip.

There will be northbound lane closures on the A90 overnight from 7.30pm on Sunday 12th November to set up the traffic management.

The contraflow will then be in place between 6.30am on Monday 13th November to 6.30am on Sunday 19th November.

There will then be further northbound lane closures from 6.30am on Sunday 19th November to stand down the traffic management.

The northbound lane closure is scheduled to be removed by 6.30am on Monday 20th November.

Following the investigation work Amey will review the southbound lane closure with a view to removing the traffic management until the design and full repairs are ready to be carried out. However, this is contingent on there being no continued potential risk to the safety of road users.

The public should also be aware that there will be a requirement to install future traffic management arrangements at this location in future to allow permanent repair work to be undertaken.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
