M90 FRIARTON BRIDGE AT PERTH FULLY REOPENS TO TRAFFIC AFTER INSPECTIONS CARRIED OUT

The M90 Friarton Bridge has been fully reopened to traffic following the removal of a contraflow which was necessary to facilitate detailed inspections to be carried out whilst ensuring the safety of road users and the workforce.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, responded immediately to reports of concrete deterioration on Friarton Bridge by undertaking a programme of inspections to determine the extent of any issues

Amey have now completed a significant portion of the inspection work and, following further assessment of the information collated, have utilised the opportunity that the contraflow traffic management presented to install a supplementary Barrier system to provide additional protection to the bridge parapet.

This system has allowed Amey to maintain two lanes open in both directions and minimise ongoing disruption to motorists.

A southbound closure is programmed overnight tonight (Friday 2nd August) between 12am and 6am to fully complete the inspections over the section crossing the railway. All southbound traffic will be diverted through Perth for this to be undertaken.

Amey is now undertaking further assessments to inform a programme of future maintenance on the structure.

An Amey spokesperson said: “Due to the urgency in assessing the issues we were unable to provide advanced notice of the necessary traffic management. We thank road users and the local community for their understanding while this work was undertaken and apologise for any delays which may have been experienced.

“Although there will be a requirement for further maintenance, the activities completed over this past week will allow us to maintain traffic flow in both directions. Any future work will be planned to minimise disruption to motorists as much as possible.”
