A96 Keith Landslide near to Union Bridge

Keith Landslide update.

UPDATE ON A96 KEITH LANDSLIDE NEAR TO UNION BRIDGE

Following heavy rain, reports were received on Sunday 21 July 2024 of a landslide near to Union Bridge on the A96 at Keith. Amey staff attended site that day and installed temporary traffic lights along with a safety barrier to prevent any further risks to pedestrians and road users.

Amey engineers carried out visual inspections on Monday 22 July to determine the extent of the issues that will require to be addressed.

An Amey spokesperson said, “Clearly our immediate concern is one of safety for road users, pedestrians and our own teams following an incident like this. However, we will continue to monitor the situation with regular inspections as we carry on with our work to identify what needs to be done.”

While our work progresses immediately on identifying the most appropriate permanent solution, this is likely to be a detailed and complex process involving liaison with a range of other agencies, including utility providers, to determine the extent of the damage and any associated implications for permanent repairs. The structure which carries the A96 across the river, is Grade C listed so this will require additional consideration in conjunction with the appropriate authority.

Whilst we acknowledge the impact to road users and the local community, the traffic management is essential to keep everyone safe. The situation will continue to be monitored by our Journey Time Reliability Coordinators.

Further updates will be provided as we progress work to identify a permanent repair.

Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
