AMEY STAFF BAND TOGETHER TO HELP BIG NOISE DOUGLAS KEEP THE MUSIC PLAYING

Amey’s north east team hit the right note when they donated £250 from their Community Fund to help Big Noise Douglas in Dundee.

Staff from the trunk road maintenance company nominate charities, voluntary groups or educational bodies in north east Scotland, where Amey operates, to receive financial help on a quarterly basis.

The Community Fund allows staff to benefit locals causes that are close to their hearts.

Amey administrator Rebecca Taylor nominated Big Noise Douglas for help due to the fantastic experience her daughter Poppy Melrose had when attending the group after the Covid-19 lockdown.

Rebecca said: “Poppy had such a great time with Big Noise Douglas that I wanted to do something which could give back to the group for all that they’ve done. They helped her grow in confidence, make new friends and learn new skills that benefit her so much.

“They help so many children in the area gain different experiences they might otherwise not have had. It’s a fantastic organisation and I was delighted that Amey could make a donation which we hope will help them continue the great work they already do.”

Head of Centre at Big Noise Douglas, Andy Thorn, said: “We’re delighted to receive this donation from Amey’s Community Fund and really pleased to hear about the positive experience Rebecca and her daughter Poppy have had with Big Noise Douglas. This donation will go towards continued delivery of our transformational social change and music education programme, helping the children and young people of Douglas to flourish.”

The group welcomed members of Amey’s highways operative team for a tour of their facility and to listen to the children play.

Big Noise Douglas, delivered by the charity Sistema Scotland, launched in September 2017 and over the past five years has used the symphony orchestra to create a community through which children can gain an invaluable range of life skills and experiences.

They work with around 550 children every week as part of an in-school, after school and holiday programme, helping them develop confidence, teamwork, resilience and aspiration, as well as the capacity to work hard, giving them the platform to reach their full potential.
